Gravel Route
On Willapa Hills Trail, Chehalis, Lewis County, Washington
The Willapa Hills Trail is a flat railroad trail. The other section consists of a mile or so of pavement, but mostly gravel logging roads. At times the surface is a little tricky - my friends did it on road bikes but they slowed way down. I had no trouble on a hybrid. Pretty remote area on the bluff - we only saw 2 vehicles and 1 bike during several hours. Route finding is a bit tricky - make sure you have a good map or use Google Maps. Cell service is spotty at times but we were able to get data on T-Mobile and Verizon most of the time.

I ran into 2 issues with this route. First, it is very steep, so make sure you are very fit or you will be walking. Second, around mile 8 the trail just ended and I spent the better part of an hour trying to find it until I finally just road back out. Lastly, I can’t imagine doing this on a road bike, I struggled in spots on my Gravel bike with 40mm tires.
