Awesome route. I believe we did the route in reverse of what is printed here. Started at about 1:30 p.m. on a late november day, so we knew we wouldn't have much daylight past about 5:45. Enjoyed a mostly downhill (or mostly flat) first section of about seven miles all the way to hot springs. Breathtaking views of the french broad. I never knew how beautiful that river could be. Almost wondered if I was in Montana for an instant. Important note! If you ride the route as we did, leaving Paint Mountain campground and going into hot springs first, be sure to not miss getting on the FSR off 70 at Tanyard Gap as we did! It starts at a paved area just past the AT overpass over 25/70, but there are no FSR signs or anything (I believe it's FSR 462, but can't exactly remember), and there was the carcass of a mostly decayed dead deer that appears as if someone dumped it there. Anyhow we rode almost entirely down that enormous hill to the confluence of 25/70 and 208 before realizing our error. It was getting dark and that was a monster hill to re-climb! Once back on track, rode about 1 more mile in the dusk and popped camp. Left camp 9:15 a.m. the next morning, and arrived at the cars (Paint Mountain Campground) at 10:37 a.m. the next morning. Great quick overnighter if you are strapped for time, as we were. JMurda
