Confirming that the northern section, after the Shafter Grade turnoff and once you get out of the trees, is very bumpy, likely due to cattle hoofprints. Up until that point it's not too bad.

Rode the north half going uphill from Francis drake to Randall’s trail on 6/25/21. Was on a Roubaix w 38s and 1:1 gearing. Rideable but too bumpy and technical for me w that equipment. I wish I’d had an mtb or at least some fatter tires. Gearing was fine. Road is maintained by cattle driving so I wouldn’t bank on it being graded any time soon :).

Road on 5/9. The last 5 miles going northbound become beyond bumpy and honestly very miserable. Rattled off a piece of my shift lever. Try to find an escape route once you get out of the redwoods.

the second half of this (downhill direction) gets pretty bumpy and a bit technical. Definitely for bigger tire gravel rigs (47mm worked reasonably well)
