The Bear 75 Route

Gravel route on Elm St, Laona, Forest County, Wisconsin

"Route originated from http://thebear100.com/routes/ This ride started tough with sloppy mud and wet snow. I made it about 20 miles in 2 hours which was slow as hell. But after that, it opened up and there was a lot of good gravel and dirt to ride on. I enjoyed a nice sandwich for lunch which kept me going for this long ride. For hydration, I packed two water bottles with Nuun hydration tablets and my Camelbak reservoir. I probably could have used a little more water though. I was cruising for a while after lunch up until 20 miles left where I hit an unused ATV trail with trees knocked over the trail, deep ATV ruts, and puddles. I had to hop on and off and hike my bike several times which really slowed me down. After I got through that mess, the rest of the ride was a battle. I faced long uphills and my legs started to get a little sore"

Twelve Foot Falls

Gravel route on S Hilbert Dr, Armstrong Creek, Marinette County, Wisconsin

"Gravel, Dirt, Sand and a little road to make this loop. The path I took was sort of a create-it-as-I go route. I hopped on a section of the Bear 75 route I previously did until Porcupine Lake. From there I hopped onto Benson Lake Road. This was probably the best long stretch of good gravel that I found on the entire trip. Once I made my way to Old Highway A, I took a few ATV routes and ultimately ended up at Twelve Foot Falls about 36 miles in. I enjoyed a nice sweet potato, almond butter, balsamic jam, and honey sandwich for the second day in a row. I took in the crashing sounds of the waterfall and got ready to make the trip home. My initial plan was to do an out and back. But I hate out and backs, especially when you have so many roads to explore in the Northwoods. I found another route, but there was only one caveat. I'd have to go through the same route that was soaking wet and muddy that I did on my first route of the trip. I was hoping some of it cleared up due to the nice weather the past couple days. To get there, I took highway 101 A, to US-8, County Rd U, and then Spur Lake Road. Spur Lake Road was a ROUGH stretch. Wet, muddy, and thick sand. I was only moving at about 10 mph as my wheels sunk into the sand."

Florence County Rustic Road Tour

Gravel route on S Hilbert Dr, Armstrong Creek, Marinette County, Wisconsin

"From county highway C I hopped onto Morgan Lake road, which brought me through the forest along to Morgan Lake Campground for a quick photoshoot. From there I continued straight on the road until I hit highway 139. I headed north from there to Long Lake, a place we like to stop at during our fall ATV rides. I stopped at Long Lake and enjoyed lunch. After lunch, I went back south down the Nicolet ATV trail for a few miles until I hit 139 again where I looped around to get back on Morgan Lake road to head back home. On the way back, I took another series of rustic roads from Twin Rivers Road, to Newald Road, then Newald Tower Road, and lastly Rock River road until I hit Morgan Lake road again. "
